About
In the early 1950's, Beatrice and Larkey Mays Sr. began the New Years Day
Family and Friends dinner at their home on Moss Mill Road in Egg Harbor
City, New Jersey. Family and friends from all over the country, visiting for the
holidays looked forward to this annual New Years Day celebration, which
began with breakfast in the morning and ended with a grand dinner in the
evening. All day they celebrated, eating and rejoicing the New Year.
After the death of Beatrice Mays in 1965, her children Helen, Larkey Jr. and
Louise continued to host the annual New Year Day dinners in their homes. As
their families and friends continued to grow, they later hosted the annual New
Year Day dinners in area restaurants and catering halls.
In the year 1985, the Beatrice Mays Scholarship Fund was founded in her
honor. Her children and grandchildren remembered her excitement, and how
proud she was to hear that one of her oldest grandchildren was entering college.
She never lived to see her go off to college, but how proud she would be to know
that thirteen grandchildren and eleven great grand children and a host of other
relatives have attended or graduated from colleges and universities.
The Beatrice Mays Scholarship Fund has been blessed to include not only
descendants of Beatrice Mays, but others who are in need of help. We thank those who continue to contribute to our fund raising efforts.
